Creating a simple GM project that just downloads an executable (or a zipped executable) from a given URL and then uses one of the available extensions to execute that newly downloaded executable. Now it's an executable binary in the OS that GMS created it for. Once you create the launcher, you cant customize it because This is all done in GMS, so it knows how to create the launcher. So it would be nice, if it was possible for GMS to make a generic, but customizable game launcher that would work like Jagex's idea, but dependent The rest is all dependent on the programming and design of your game. In my idea, the GMS game studio would make a "generic" launcher ( which is intended to be customized by the game programmer(s) ) that you use to connect to your online game using the URL, and other information that it needs to run the game in the resolution that you intended your for online game.Īll of this works around the dependency of using a web browser, allowing less overhead for memory management. Instead of using the web browser as Jagex originally designed it in the early years of the game design, you now use the launcher. You logon, and you're at the lobby, to start playing the game in the world you want. I was wondering does GMS have ( or plans to have ) a feature for developing a game launcher for online games that you create using the HTML license ( I have the perpetual HTML license before YoYoGames changed it into a subscription )?įor example, Runescape by Jagex, has a online game launcher where it opens up a window, and loads up the logon screen to their site on the Internet. Its been a long time since Ive posted anything here in this part of the forum.
